While polls taken shortly after the October 7, 2023 massacres indicated a shockingly high level of support for Hamas’ actions throughout the Arab world, an opposite trend emerged in Israeli Arab society. Not only did 80% oppose the massacres, but also 75% expressed willingness to personally aid the injured victims. (https://www.ynet.co.il/news/article/skda99hwp) Furthermore, there was a steep jump in levels of identification with Israeli society as a whole. Whereas in June 2023 only 48% of Israeli Arab respondents said they felt “a part of the State of Israel and its problems," in November of the same year the number jumped to 70%. These findings strongly indicate that exposure to the Israelite value of the sanctity of human life influenced the repulsion to the Hamas atrocities and correspondingly to a greater appreciation of Israeli society.
